Outdoor Education and Leadership Minor

Outdoor Education and Leadership Minor

The Outdoor Education and Leadership minor is tailored for students who want to guide and inspire others through meaningful outdoor experiences. This program equips students with practical skills in outdoor recreation, interpretation, and experiential education, preparing them to lead adventures, teach in nature-based settings, and connect people to the outdoors through hands-on learning. Opportunities within this minor include activities such as rock climbing, canoeing, adventure facilitation, peer-led excursions, community programs, and youth outreach. Students with an interest in interpretation and environmental education will also be prepared for roles in nature centers, visitor centers, and state or national parks. These roles may involve leading guided hikes and designing programs that engage diverse audiences with local ecosystems and conservation efforts. This minor complements a wide range of majors by offering an applied learning environment where students develop key skills such as leadership, teamwork, communication, risk management, and sound decision-making.
