Political Communication Major

POLSCI 3181 has prerequisites of POLSCI 2010; 15 hours of Political Science, Political Communication, or Public Administration major.

POLSCI 4188/5188 has a prerequisite of POLSCI 1048; junior standing.

COMM 4022/5022 has a prerequisite of CM CORE 2020 or equivalent; junior standing.

COMM 4155/5155 has a prerequisite of CM CORE 2020 or consent of instructor; COMM 3055; junior standing.

Learning Outcomes

Political Communication, B.A.

  • Outcome 1: Students will be able to critically evaluate political communication concepts and theories to explain and investigate political communication phenomena such as elite rhetoric, persuasion, political campaign, political journalism. 
  • Outcome 2: Students will be able to analyze evidence and data and use it to assess claims/ test hypotheses. 
  • Outcome 3: Students will be able to develop persuasive arguments and reasoned judgments about the role of communication in democracy. 
  • Outcome 4: Students will be able to create political communication campaign materials.
  • Outcome 5: Students will communicate effectively in writing. 
  • Outcome 6: Students will communicate effectively through oral presentations.
